CivicTheme included as part of Australian Government content management recommendations
The Digital Transformation Agency’s Australian Government Architecture (AGA) brings together digital resources and guides to help government agencies align to the digital direction of the broader Australian Government.
There are many (many!) digital-related resources included. Some of the content management ones are:
- GovCMS PaaS and GovCMS SaaS
- The Digital Service Standard 1.0
- The Content Management policy
- Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Drupal Services Panel
And of course, CivicTheme!

CivicTheme has been recognised and recommended under both:
The AGA shows the Australian Government digital landscape, with CivicTheme as a recommended component within that landscape.
Policy for content management
The specific policy for content management covers four key recommendations:
-
“Avoid investment in new digital experience platform (DXP) tools until they have discussed with The Department of Finance the procurement options and pricing available through the GovCMS program.
-
Avoid investment in new, standalone solutions for the hosting and publishing of web content, until they have discussed with The Department of Finance the capabilities and opportunities GovCMS provides
-
Consider onboarding to the Whole-of-Government GovCMS
-
Meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA”
CivicTheme and GovCMS
CivicTheme is an open-source, WCAG-compliant, technology-agnostic design system, UI kit and Drupal theme. It can be used for ‘straight’ Drupal websites or GovCMS websites. CivicTheme was also recommended by Sharyn Clarkson, the founder of GovCMS, during the September Drupal ACT Meetup.
You can adopt, adapt or customise the CivicTheme design system for your digital portfolio.
