Overview

SDP’s challenge

SDP didn’t have a consolidated view of platform info and stats due to disparate log solutions. SDP chose Sumo Analytics to meet this need, but the various platform logs needed to be integrated.

More about the challenge

SDP’s transformation

Salsa and amazee.io integrated logs from edge (section.io) and origin (application, build, request and container logs). With Sumo Analytics set up on the platform, SDP can now get a complete platform snapshot, with aggregate log and metric info from all the deployed projects.

The outcomes

  • Easy-to-read dashboard

  • Access to centralised platform analytics, including the ability to see cache hit ratio, error logs, build logs, WAF logs, and more

  • Improved visibility of platform info and stats

Detailed case study

Below is more detailed information on the challenge, transformation and outcomes.

SDP’s challenge — disparate analytics

The SDP platform implements services from many different vendors. This means that useful log information is stored individually in separate logging backends. To enable a consolidated view, SDP chose to implement Sumo and to consume log data from all disparate sources.

SDP’s transformation — integration of Sumo Logic

Salsa and amazee.io integrated logs from edge (section.io) and origin (application, build, request and container logs) with Sumo Logic

The Sumo Logic dashboard shows the log information from all the systems that make up the SDP platform. SDP can now see cache hit ratios, error logs, build logs, WAF logs, etc. all in one place.

SDP can use Sumo Logic to surface build errors. They can also track a request throughout every part of the stack using an annotation on the request. In this way, they can see it go through every log platform.

Sumo Logic also enables the SDP operations team to define service level objects (SLOs). These enable the team to track, report and alert on log metrics in real time. This is a big step into enabling the team to make proactive decisions and identify issues before they become real issues.

With Sumo Analytics set up on the platform, SDP can now get a complete platform snapshot, with aggregate log and metric info from all the deployed projects.

The outcomes — centralised platform analytics

  • Easy-to-read dashboard

  • Access to centralised platform analytics, including the ability to see cache hit ratio, error logs, build logs, WAF logs, and more

  • Improved visibility of platform info and stats

About SDP
